Trading in old car to dealership and collecting new car on Tuesday ( this is Thursday 30th July) what's the best way and the best time to cancel my current road tax.
I'm assuming if I don't cancel before the end of July I lose out on the month of August as well. If necessary I can leave my old car at the dealers tomorrow, obviously it will be off the public highway and I don't require a car over this weekend, I can manage for a few days.
In case there's a problem, I will still be insured in the old car until midnight on Monday so is there any leeway to drive the car out on Monday because it's going to a dealer?
Any pointers or suggestions? Is this the right way to go about it?

No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere

If you trade it in tomorrow, and get all the paperwork done tomorrow you should get August back.
If you SORN the car tomorrow, the only way that you can legally drive it is to a pre-booked MOT test (which would surely cost more than the months tax) I'm not sure if you could book the test with them, drive there then cancel the test without paying and stay within the Law.....
You could get the dealer to collect it on Trade Plates, or with a car trailer next week.
I'd let the month go personally, no way would I let them have my car until I could touch the new one and take it home- what if they go into receivership with your car traded in early???
Whar if your new car is delayed for a week or two?I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

How much are you paying in tax? Even in the top band (G) it's only about £40/month.
I guess if you really want you can take it to their car park, SORN it, and trade it in on Tuesday, but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle/risk. I certainly wouldn't give them legal posession of it until you take posession of the new one.0 -
Take the car tomorrow, fill in the paperwork - the yellow trade slip, DO NOT let them post it for you. You post it yourself tomorrow in the postbox, not Saturday, Monday or Tuesday.
That is up to you.0
