My puzzle is why anyone would send a car to an MOT, knowing full well it wasn't in passable condition.......
When you take a car in for MOT and it has silly little faults, the tester is likely to assume you don't look after the vehicle properly and fail any borderline issues instead of passing them as advisories.
So in the case of your friend, if I were doing the MOT i'd be thinking "I bet this chimp has been driving around for 9 months with a bulb out, no way am I going to pass this........."“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Yes, is that not ok?0 -
No-one on this moneysaving website has pointed out the saving your friend could have made by replacing the bulb himself!0

Can't think of a good reason why a tester, instructed by a consumer to change a bulb, would act that way. Makes no sense at all unless he and his garage are doing their own QC book (they have to do that now with the new computer system or pay out to one of the companies charging for it) or they have already been brought to DVSA attention. It's not as if he failed it, fixed it and completed another test.0

Only £5 inc fitting, bargain. Not that easy in some cars.0

Amazing how many people are happy to drive around with only one brake light working until MOT time comes around again...(and then moan when someone runs into the back of them). No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Pointing it out after the money has been spent wouldn't be moneysaving would it
Some cars are so difficult to change the bulb that £5 including a reasonable quality bulb would be a bargain.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Apparently they have to "fail" so many cars, that's what my friend tell me who works in a garage, apparently the DOT check how many fails/passes a garage has , if its too high low or whatever it triggers a check
This was a few years ago i was told this , might be different now ?0 -
Apparently, as Dave down the pub told me, they have to fail every green car every second Thursday. BS.0

And as i've been reminded a few times, it's not always about spending as little money as possible, but getting the best possible value with the money you do spend.0
