Microsoft's attitude toward security has been less than stellar, yes it has improved but still has some way to go. You are taking this rather personally on Microsoft's behalf, it's nothing personel against Microsoft and if it were a stupid security move by Apple, 'nixes, Google or whoever I'd say the same. It's literally 4 clicks to turn it off.
Notification Centre>Settings>Wifi>Advanced Options> Manage WiFi Settings - Turn it OFF !0
