rbs royal bank of scotland are they reliable now?

Options
I have opened a spare account with them for spending and they have offered me a good credit card also.

Bit unsure of how they are at the moment.

Any one able to give recent feedback good or bad etc?

I've had a couple of accounts with them for about 8 years. No problems whatsoever.

They are currently in the middle of changing their accounts for customers in England to Williams and Glyn, so expect some updates by the end of 2016. Details are available on your online banking.

    Reliable in what sense?

    Customer service? Debatable
Technology? Obviously had a few high profile failures in recent years
Financially? As already proven, they wont let a bank fail and really only comes into major consideration if you have over £85k with them

You missed the gigantic outage they had in 2012 and for which they were fined £56m? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-30125728

My view is that accounts with RBS/Natwest/Ulster are ok as long as you don't rely entirely on them, and as long as you are not looking for getting decent interest. Nobody should be relying on a single financial institution, anyway.

Savings accounts with RBS :(:(:( - their interest rates are even worse than Barclays, and Barclays are really bad.

I 'returned' to rbs after a few yrs and various offers from different banks.

rbs have been excellent, might even consider moving my mtg in 2 yrs when my existing fixed rate finishes

rbs online banking and iPhone app are modern for daily banking needs:T

Been with them for about six months and had no issues. Online banking is a bit fiddly.

They did turn me down for a CC though but many factors in that.
