Thoughts on now TV v Netflix? Does now have a similar selection of titles to choose from? Are there any distinct differences? Any other thoughts appreciated.

Now Tv is made up of 3 parts - Movies, Entertainment, and Sports. Entertainment is normally around £6 a month, though they just let me have 2 months for £2 per month when I was going to cancel it. Movies is normally around £8 per month, but if you have the 30 day trial then go to cancel it, you usually get it reduced if you continue. Last time I looked at Sports, it was about £10 for 24 hours, although I think they do weekly passes now (not sure). Had Netflix a while back but not recently so can't comment on content.
If it was a choice between the 2, I would choose Sky's Now Tv personally as I prefer the smart tv app to Netflix, and movie choice seems to be more recent movies on Sky. The beauty is that both are on a monthly contract, so you could try having one for a few months, then switch to the other. On subscription cost, Netflix is cheaper all in for movies and tv, but with Now Tv you can just have movies, or entertainment, or both. Between Amazon, Netflix, and Now Tv, most films/tv shows seem to do the rounds eventually, apart from the odd exclusive far as I can tell.

    Cool, thanks for your post.

Well I'm actually considering getting it through my Vodafone contract - it's £6 to go to the next level and I get 24 months nowtv + extra 2gb data. Guess I'd have to check with Vodafone what level of now TV subscription it includes.

I personally prefer Netflix as I've found Netflix to have greatly superior image quality than the Now TV box. Even considering Now TV is 720p, it often doesn't quite seem like its 720p and the bitrate seems quite low. It's the case where with Now TV you remember you're watching a streaming video service.

NowTV though does have the more recent stuff, which is its primary selling point. Due to Sky's exclusivity deal with HBO for new content, many big shows such as Game of Thrones and True Detective will not show up on Netflix for years. Amazon have a similar deal in place for streaming services, but as far as I know, in the UK that only covers VoD sales, as Sky have the rights to stream the content for subscription at present.

Movie wise, again, Now TV will have more newer releases than Netflix, although a few notable exceptions such as The Hobbit films, and the Hunger Games movies, have appeared on Netflix before they've appeared on Now TV or Sky Movies.

Netflix is the better service for people who are content with waiting and/or don't mind watching some older TV shows and movies. It also has some brilliant Netflix Original series that are well worth checking out.

Enjoy up to 24 months of NOW TV Entertainment Pass.....

What are the specific tariffs in question? It looks as if you are going to tie yourself into a 24 month contract in order to get an expensive mobile phone.

Only the apple TV box shows now TV live streams in 720p, all other devices inc the new nowtv box is just SD. Apple chucked a load of money their way to make that happen. You view doesn't even get the option of live streams.
