Income protection

Does any one know of a plan that protects your income in the event of sickness or redundancy. As I have life cover which includes accidents etc not much point in payiong double.
As I have some loans including HP I would like to have some sort of "insurance" in the event that I am off ill for a long time. My work insurance only covers me for 3 months which generally is more than enough for most illness should you be that unfortunate.
I don't suppose you can get a PPI to cover all your debt payments in the event of prolonged illness without paying an arm and a leg. Is it possible to get a joint type of PPI insurance to cover your spouse and yourself? Again without paying an arm and a leg.

Im currently looking at a policy with Insurety plc - Sovereign Income Protection. Was contacted by phone - bloke was going through the yellow pages ringing self employed people.

I told him to send me a leaflet. On the face of it it looks very good - you pay your premiums and if you dont claim you get all your dosh back. Im not sure if I want to pay out for more insurances at the moment and its such a mine field.

Cold calling is a sign of desperation. Also, the person calling is a tied rep for that company. I wouldnt touch it as there are loads of better companies.
