What do you think it could mean, specifically in the given context?

Switched to Nationwide 3 times and got cashback each time, since their T&Cs never mention any restrictions. Most other banks do though.

Their "Recommend a friend" offer now specifically only allows 1 bonus per year.
If you have been recommended by a friend you will only be entitled to one payment under this offer in any 12 month period which starts when your first switch to us completes. This means that if you switch any additional accounts to us in that 12 month period no further payments will be made

Though you can still get paid for recommending up to 10 others.

First Direct made an error and paid me twice. I think it's because I sent a message to query the missing £100 and someone paid it, but someone else was also paying it and they both went in a day or so apart.

I think you should tell them (if you haven't already). I'm not sure on the legality, but it might not be your money to spend or use but it will be your responsibility to report it.

I wouldn't tell them as it will hardly hurt them. But keep the money in your account for a month or so, in case they are trying to recall it.

Maybe I'm too honest, but when Barclays paid me a £100 incentive twice a few years ago I came clean when I was about to close the account (very shortly after payment). I gave them a couple of weeks to remove it but they never did!

Heh, I'd forgotten about the RAF bonus. That was on top of the 3 cashback amounts I received.
