What really?
Suppose I will just have to guess the paint quantities for the back bedroom then.0 -
Wheels are not designed to sit straight ahead.
Most cars specification either set the wheels to slightly toe in or toe out depending on whether it has a steering box set up or power steering.
The piece of string method is outdated for that reason.0 -
An awful lot of garbage spouted about run of the mill cars and owners justifying spending unnecessary money on laser alignment. (I thought only people in the 70's thought lasers were magical).
The majority of cars on the road today are fwd and have remarkably wide tolerances (akin their even less demanding rwd counterparts) for alignment. As long as the toe in or toe out is equal per side, the average motorist would never notice any difference, it will run true. There may be a difference in away from centre weighting or a feeling of over-centring steering, but as many owners present their cars with mis-matched tyres or wrong tyre pressures for, "alignment" it's doubtful if many could tell the difference if the alignment is right or wrong.
Absolutely nothing wrong with a tape measure, piece of string, concentric sliding pole device or whatever. If the user knows what they are doing it will work better than a whole lot of cowboys leaning over their recently leased, new gear.0 -

There's a lot of truculent urban radical drivers alive on these forums and you've done well to stand your ground.0 -
So they took the car back in and held it for 4 days, and their resolution was apparently to proceed to waste their money on yet another allignment. Just for reference, they performed the exact same check 2 weeks ago and the output was green for all outputs. Meaning the wheels took 2 weeks to back out of alignment?
