Reclaiming bank account charges

Hi, this is my first time on here so not sure I'm
posting in the right place - hope so!

Anyway, I have started to claim my bank account charges back with a company. I understand they will take a fee, I'm just not happy with the amount of time it is taking, I have rang them a couple of times and they have said its with the ombudsman. Yesterday was the last time I rang and they haven't contacted me back. I'm wondering whether to stop my claim with them and do it myself. Has anyone else done this?

Do you think it's as simple as PPI?

    It's too late to cancel.
The contract you signed means they get their cut whether they do all of the work or you do it or somebody else does it.
    Basically you are stuffed.

I hope you haven't paid any advance fees to your claim company.

As the banks have won the case in the Supreme Court in 2009, it is virtually impossible to get bank charges refunded, at least historical ones. (There is a possibility to get some of the current charges refunded on grounds of financial hardship). Also your claims company saying the case is with the ombudsman sounds dodgy, as the ombudsman does not get involved with bank charges any more (after the court has decide they are neither illegal nor unfair).

Have you seen any evidence of the correspondence you claim company has sent-out and received?

Ah ok....was told I could pull out at any time. I just don't know how to start the claim at the ombudsman stage, I'd probably have to start with the bank. Don't fabcy paying 30% to a company who are dragging their feet :|

What are the timescales so far and how does this compare with what was agreed or outlined/estimated when you signed up with the claims company?

Just out of interest, what's the basis of your claim, i.e. if you're looking to claim that this was mis-sold to you, then what supports that view?

Been led to believe that the banks are now playing hardball on these cases so approaching yourself will be difficult, I am not saying use a Company but considering you signed an agreement then you really have no option here.

The delay will be due to some major banks saying yes to some and no to a lot more as opposed to a year ago or so when most were being paid out.

  • This is a long shot but does anyone know how much rbs royalties fees were back in 1998. I had a royalties account for 2 years (1998-2000) and the bank have agreed to refund me all my monthly fees for those 2 years but are only offering me £92. I'm sure i was at least £10 a month back then but cant really remember. I hope someone can help

Royalties Gold might have been £10 a month, but I think a Royalties account would have been a lot less.
