What is this ecomony 7?

Economy 7 is a two meter system for electricity - it means your consumption is recorded seperately for day & night usage and you are charged different prices for day & night - okay if you don't run anything expensive during the day such as tumble drier / emersion heater - you need to be aware of this as the day price is usually more expensive thsn standard non econ 7 tariff0

Economy 7, is cheap rate electricity, the E7 rate runs from about 1am to 8am.
It was designed for people who had electric night storage heaters which would be switched on by a Radio teleswitch for those 7 hours.
If you don't have night storage heaters its unlikely to make economic sense, unless you are running immersion heater, washing m/c etc a lot during those hours.
If you have it then you will see the day and night rate components on your bill.
You may have a dual rate meter, but thats no guarantee that you have E7.
If you are on E7 you could be worse off as day units are usually more costly on these tariffs. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Hi Lewis....E7 is 7hours of cheap rate electric at night, and used by storage heaters designed to take and store the heat and let it out gradually during the daytime.
Storage heaters are heavy and obvious, you will know if you have them.
Your supplier can help in providing E7 but it might mean a change of meter. This new meter will have two readings, one for daytime and one for off peak, and maybe another reading totalling the two.
Mostly used in flats or heavily insulated houses. Some forecasting of the next days weather is needed.
