Can I get a budgeting advance for rent arrears?

According to the gov website you can for various things including a rent deposit, but it doesn't specifically say for rent arrears, does anyone know if I can?

Comments

  • Make a claim for Discretionary Housing Payments if you are receiving Housing Benefit? No guarantee and depending if the arrears are still ongoing due to a shortfall in HB might be worth a try.

These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

The JC have told me that you need to be on benefit/UC for at least 6 months before you can get a budgeting advance yet I can't find anything online that states that, can you clear this up, in Scotland btw.

According to this you wont get a DHP for rent arrears. your Local Housing Allowance is lower than your rent in private rented property your Housing Benefit is reduced because of non-dependant deductions/housing costs contributions your Housing Benefit is reduced because you are working age and it has been decided that you have a spare bedroom in social rented property your Housing Benefit is reduced due to the Benefit Cap Is this correct?
