Hi,
3 weeks ago someone hacked my amazon account, changing my email address and trying to order replacements of items I had previously ordered. I called them as soon as i got the email saying my email address had been changed. They said it would be sorted in 2 working days. i havent been charged for anything on my card but i have called 3 more times and emailed them 8 days ago yet the problem is still not sorted out. There account sanitization department set up a brand new account with my email address on it but they didn't put any of my details on it. not even my name. So I now have a blank account with none of my past history, orders, student prime account (which means I cant use instant video), wishlist, books or music. It also means I can't use either of the two kindle fire devices I own. The problem is that whenever you talk or chat online to someone at amazon you cant get any further than them promising it will be 2 working days. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. I know it seems silly for me to be so bothered but I am agoraphobic so used amazon for ordering everything other than groceries and I have 2 heartbroken kids who cant use their kindles
Thanks

I'm not sure how complex amazon's DRM system is - you could try following http://ebookfriendly.com/back-up-kindle-books-2-ways/ to get the books backed up to your pc then http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201176200 to change the account (I know its the same email address).
If the DRM just goes off the account email then it should work? Otherwise I'd keep pestering Amazon.0 -
I take it you have checked how it might have been hacked eg did you click on an email link you thought was from amazon.0
-
I also recently had an Amazon hack (didn't change my email, I think they got in through my email as a couple of other accounts had issues)
Some of the orders were cancelled by Amazon and one was refunded by my bank. Keep on at them0 -
How did you get your account hacked ?
Please tell us so we all can be careful.0 -
Amazon will usually be able to reinstate your old account deleting any details from the previous account - they wouldn't usually set up a new account for you, are you sure you haven't created a new account under the other email address.
On Amazon you can have multiple accounts under the same email address, it could be that your account has been reinstated but you are now signing in to a different account which has none of your purchase history.
This happened to a family member and I think they they had clicked they were a new customer accidentally and it created a new account even though it was under the same email address, the new account didn't include any of their previous order history.
Get in touch with Amazon and ask them if there are two accounts under your email address, if there are ask them to send you a password reset email for both accounts and if that is what has happened you will then have access to the old account again.
Make sure you also change the password on your email account as if that is how someone has been able to access the account then they could be picking up any emails that Amazon are sending.0 -
I have checked with them and there is only one account with my email address and that's the new one they set up. They keep telling me all my account information has been removed from the old account. As some have already said it would have made more sense just to delete the incorrect details from the account but for some reason they didn't do this. As for how I was hacked. I never click on links sent to me in emails and from what happened it seems they worked out my password for the account as this was the only thing affected. I just don't know if there is any kind of process to take it higher. It gets frustrating being told the same thing all the time knowing it won't happen when they say.
As for the unhelpful person who just wanted to pass judgment. To me it is a big deal. All my study books and hundreds of pounds worth of other digital purchases have seemingly been taken away I error. I paid for those items and I can't afford to replace them. Thankyou to those with positive suggestionsApril GC 9th-7th may £0/£3200 -
For future reference your passwords can be simple and strong at the same time. An old job I had would have the Administrator account as balamory. But would write it with numbers and letters giving:
13414m0ry
With 13 = B - just adding symbols on the end of your passwords can help too as well as capitalising letters. Don't use information that other people would readily know i.e your childs name + a number isn't gonna keep them away for long.
If you're at work - use things on your desks as reminders i.e F0!D3R123 = Folder123 I have a folder on my desk that way if I have a "Oh crap what's my password moment" it's right in front of me.0 -

Okay, have you received any emails from 'Account Specialists' (I think that's the term Amazon will use), basically contacting customer service will just have you continually going round in circles as I doubt customer service will have any active role in the security process.
If you have received an email about it that isn't from customer services after you have spoken to them reply to that as that should pass customer services and go straight through to the department who sent you it in the first place.0
