Lintel And Crittal Window Replacement

We are having to put new lintels in above several windows in our house, due to the lintel being the wooden timber frame above our old crittal windows, we found this out by accident when a friend who is a builder took a look at them and said the wood had shrunk and this would need to be done in the next 2-3 years.
At the same time I thought I may as well get double glazing put in, and have had quotes around the £10.000-£13.000 mark we have a 4 bed detatched 30's house in Hampshire. This is to put in White UPVC windows and lintel replacement and new composite doors, including a new front door.
My husband does not want to get rid of the crittal windows and is getting quotes for replacements, but googling this I think the price will be several times the quote we have got for UPVC. Not all the windows are not in bad condition, but about 6 windows will definitely need replacement as well as new frames, so we could probably get away with just doing this.
My question is, all the other residents in our road got rid of the Crittal windows and have white UPVC, will getting rid of the old leaded Crittal windows lower the value of our property, or keep it the same, or even improve it. I would prefer double glazing for the extra warmth, and security, and personally would prefer a property with it, but is this how the majority of people will look at it?. The frames need re-painting every few years and I know that alone could put potential people off buying the house (we are thinking of moving in 2-3 years time) I dont want to do something to the house which could devalue it.

Apparently you can get double glazed Crittal windows and the modern ones are galvanised and powder coated so should not require regular reprinting. I suspect your feelings on cost are correct. Having gone off uPVC in a big way we recently replaced our front door with one made of engineered wood and the cost was rather eye watering.0
