Hi All,

I'm seeking a laptop at present, something via which I can browse online, watch movies and utilise MS Office etc.

I don't want to go mad with the prices, however I want something with a decent spec. What do people recommend and where are the best places to purchase?

How much do you want to spend ?

Then we can advise on what you get for your budget

    £500, less if possible.

Something like this for the both of you as a starter to get the ball rolling:

    £399

This has full HD (1080p) and a dedicated graphics card

I'm sure others will be along to help bargain spot.

Looks good, however I'm unfamiliar with Lenova - is it a good make?

They are the worlds largest PC manufacturer, formerly IBM PC division.

Nice one, will there be something like this with Windows 10 on it?

Don't go for W10 for 6 months until it's been a bit more stabilised. This will still qualify for free w10 upgrades for the next 12 months anyway

Free upgrades? That's fantastic if it is the case.

    I'm seeking a laptop...

I don't really keep up-to-date with what's available, but it would probably help you narrow down your choices if you consider what the laptop is going to be used for.

Is it going to be kept in the home (where a large screen might be a benefit and weight isn't an issue) or does it need to be more portable? How rugged/durable does it need to be? What kind of programs will you be using?

And how often will you use it? If you use it every day, spending a bit extra on something faster might be worth it. Or for basic, occasional use something cheaper might fit the bill...
