The advantage we had was that a standing order for care fees could be set up directly by my OH, and altered when costs changed due to a higher level of care needed, without having to worry MIL over costs.

I had a savings account with my mother - at her request - then when she died I was able to access the money without any query from the Building Soc, to pay for the funeral, which is what she wanted.

If you had a joint account with your mother, the moment she died all of the money became your money so there was no need to pay the funeral out of 'your' money, It could or should have been paid out of the estate.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

If all the information you give during the online application is satisfactory then the account should be up and running immediately. At least that was my experience when opening a joint 123 account with my wife. We both were existing customers with 123 accounts.
I got this, so I think it's not as satisfactory as yours!

    What happens next?

    • We will process your application within 3 working days and send you a letter or email.
    • This will either confirm that your account is opened or ask you to provide additional information.

Just to clarify, the money in the account was her money, there was no estate as she was in a care home, she held the legal amount she was allowed to have in savings.

Do your arithmetic carefully, since you might find that two (or three) Club lLoyds accounts might work better for you: the monthly fee can be avoided; the interest rate is higher; interest is paid on balances up to 5,000.
