Hi
My son wants to play a game on his laptop called Ark Survival Evolved.
It states it has to be 64 bit and his laptop is a Packard Bell Easynote TS AMD Quad Core A6 3420M with 1GB dedicated ram, I have checked in the system details and his is 32 bit.
Is there a way around this or a way to install windows 64 bit on his laptop?
I am not a technophobe but I am also not too techy when it comes to flattening and reinstalling computers but I can take it somebody I know.
I would be grateful if somebody could advise if it is possible firstly.
Many thanks

Minimum spec. is:
CPU: Info CPU Speed: 2.0 GHz Dual-Core 64-bit CPU RAM: 4 GB OS: Windows 7 or Windows 8 Video Card: DirectX11 Compatible GPU with 1 GB Video RAM Free Disk Space: 20 GB
See: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/ark-survival-evolved/12631/?p=r
Do you have 4GB of memory and 1GB video? Bear in mind it won't run well on the minimum spec either.
Anyway is it worth buying a 64-bit Windows and reinstalling just to run a game; you'll probably have to reinstall all your other programs?0 -
Thank you so much for getting back so soon.
I know when I bought the laptop about 18mths ago it had a 1gb dedicated graphics card and I am not too bothered about reinstalling as he only has minecraft and simcity on there.
How much roughly would it cost to convert to 64 bit. He has asked for a gaming desktop for xmas and birthday (they are weeks apart) but I was hoping the laptop would suffice for the games he wants to play until then so thinking shorter term if there was anything that could tide him over.
Thanks once again
...just checked and it has 4gb memory too

Thanks Grumbler.
I have just had a quick read, am I right in thinking that I should just be able to pass it over to my computer repair guy and he can install 64bit windows disk? Also is it a big job and will I have to purchase a new windows package?
Many thanks

Doesn't cost anything, as you have an existing licence. that covers both.0 -
Thanks niftydigits
I have just noticed on ebay a Windows 64 bit installation disc for 5.95. It says it is simple to install and I have the windows key so would it be worthwhile attempting this myself. Is is pretty straightforward or would I be asking for trouble:D
thanks again

that said:There is no way to perform an upgrade from a 32- to a 64bit version of Windows; instead, you need to complete a clean installation of Windows 7 64bit. However, if your disc contains only the 32bit edition, you can't use it to install 64bit Windows. (See also: Run 64bit Windows XP on a Windows 7 PC.) If your copy of Windows didn't come with two discs (one 32bit, the other 64bit), you may find your product key isn't valid for a 64bit installation. This will depend on the exact version of Windows 7 you purchased and whether it's an upgrade, OEM or a full retail copy. Full retail copies should include a code for 64bit installations, but you'll still need the relevant disc – perhaps a friend has one you could borrow.0 -

You'll need to run a clean install. First removing and saving any data that you wish to keep, as the install completely wipes the C: partition.
If you are going to do it yourself, the installation disc is in your Inbox.0 -
My son tried this game. His computer specs are
Intel i5-4460
NVIDIA GeForce GTX760
8GB Ram
He had to turn all the detail down to minimum which made it virtually unplayable.
Luckily he bought it through Steam and was able to get a refund.0 -
Thanks for letting me know, looks like it won't work then:(
Must be some super game as I thought the laptop would play most games with it having a dedicated graphics card.
Never mind, I will have have to break the news to him, he will have to wait until he gets a new computer at xmas I think.
I suppose it saves me hours of my life installing windows and all the problems I will no doubt have:D
Thanks again everyone:beer:0
