They're not bad, but can be a pain to setup for 'outside of your house' access. You've got to configure all manner of port forwarding on your router.
There's loads of different apps. This one isn't free, but is pretty good https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alexvas.dvr.pro&hl=en_GB
I especially like how it'll send the feed to my Chromecast0
