closing account to improve credit file

opinions please. I have a catalogue shopping account that opened 02.02.07 current balance £543.52 which I can pay off. credit limit of £2125.00. if I pay this off and close this account would that improve my credit file do you think. I am looking to apply for a mortgage next year. thanks for your time.

No point in carrying debt if you can pay it off.
Lenders are looking for reliable financial behaviour, so using a credit card regularly and paying off in full is a good way of achieving that.0
