Debt That Doesn't Show On Credit File

Hi All,
I've recently signed up to Experian & Equifax to see my poor credit ratings and try to improve them. First of all, they both are very different in their ratings/score. One says I have a fair rating and the other says I have a poor rating. So which do I go off?
Anyway on both of them, there is no mention of some of the debts I have through debt collection agencies. Does this mean these are not affecting my ratings at all? Also, does it also mean these are no longer debts and I don't need to pay them back?
Any advice would be grateful.

You don't go off either of their scores or ratings, because neither are accurate or have any meaning.
Debts are still owed, whether on your credit file or not. You may also want to check Noddle.0 -
One debt was sold to Motor Mile. Anyone dealt with these before and advise what I should do? I've had no contact from them at all but I know its been passed to them.0

If defaulted more than 6 years ago they would not show due to being to old, but as said would still be owed.
Also may not show due to not being reported to the CRAs you checked, or you not giving enough old addresses etc to make them show.
I these are old debts, then has there been a period of 6 years during which you neither acknowledged them in writing or paid towards them?
