CAG have contacted my partner with information regarding a loan he took out in 2005 claiming that he could be entitled to compensation for miss sold PPI. I am very sceptical about this company after reading things about them on one of these forums and wondered if anyone had any positive experiences with them?
My partner is aware that they charge 39% for their service and if the claim is not successful then we do not have to pay them a fee. My partner is happy to pay them 39% should the claim be successful. (We previously tried to go direct to the bank and they told us he did not have PPI with the loan and were being very difficult so we left it there). Basically, if someone does not do it for him, then he will not pursue a claim with the bank so in his eyes he will be grateful for any compensation he receives.
I understand he will have to confirm with the loan provider that he gives permission for them to liaise directly with CAG and provide them with information regarding the loan. My partner no longer banks with the bank in question so I cannot see this being a problem in terms of CAG being able to access information regarding his current accounts and finances etc.
My partner has now signed the forms but there is a 14 day cooling off period which allows him to cancel the agreement. The thing I found odd is that the CAG representative came to our home in order for him to sign the form when they had said originally they would post them. (We did not let him into the house but made him wait at the front of the flat so we could thoroughly read the terms and conditions).
I guess I am just after some reassurance. Everyone is saying CAG is a scam so its making me very nervous now about what my partner has signed up for. What part of this is a scam? Sorry if I sound very naïve here! (for the record, I didn't want my partner to do this but ultimately it was his decision).
Any advice anyone could offer would be much appreciated as I am a bit worried we are going to end up out of pocket somehow!!
TIA!

39% is high. Plus, the service is vatable (20%)We previously tried to go direct to the bank and they told us he did not have PPI with the loan and were being very difficult so we left it there
If you have already complained and its over 6 months ago then its game over unless the bank volunteers to reopen the complaint or significant new information comes to light that would likely change the outcome.
Being rejected as you dont have PPI is pretty final. Do you have any evidence to show there was PPI?I guess I am just after some reassurance. Everyone is saying CAG is a scam so its making me very nervous now about what my partner has signed up for. What part of this is a scam?
Its more the lies that are told to get people to sign up. Their sales reps earn commissions for getting sign ups. So, they will tell you anything to get you to put the complaint in.
For example, you say that there was no PPI. So, what would a new complaint achieve? If no PPI then there is nothing to refund.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). It's not a scam as such, it's just that they are charging your boyfriend 39% of any payout for a stamp.
He will need to provide all the information to them, and they will then send it on to the lender.
If you have access to a post office and could buy your own stamp, I would suggest cancelling it ASAP.0 -
How exactly do you think Claims Advisory Group know of your supposed PPI? They are not entitled to your personal data.
So if you really did have PPI they obtained it by criminal means because the Data Protection Act prevents it. Banks do not knowingly disclose such data without consent, so the must have stolen it.
Alternatively, they are dishonestly making a statement that you had PPI with total disregard to whether it is true in order to make a gain for themselves. That is fraud.
So they are either thieves or fraudsters - take your pick. Do you really want to do business with people like that?
Therefore few people here will give you the reassurance you seek. I suggest you use the 14 day cooling off period to cancel the complaint.
If your original complaint was responded to less than six months ago, you can go to the Financial Ombudsman Service free.
If it was longer, you will probably be too late unless you are one of those who the Financial Conduct Authority has forced the bank to look at again. If that is the case, you will get the redress whether you involve CAG or not. The only difference is that you will get it all rather than just 61% of it.0 -
Hi all thank you for your responses.
The original letter from us to the Bank was to ask whether PPI was taken out on the loan in question, not a complaint about being miss sold PPI. At this point the bank stated that there was no PPI on this loan. My partner rather annoyingly does not have any of the supporting paperwork so we cannot check if this is the case. We sent our original letter back in 2013 I believe it was.
We contacted the Bank last week to ask for the supporting evidence for this loan and they are asking for £1 per sheet of paper and then they will send him the statements in relation to this loan, alternatively they suggested he send them a blank cheque...... My BF does not wish to pursue this himself so is happy for someone else to do it for him (even for an extremely high rate!).
So I'm thinking worse case scenario is they investigate and there is no claim and that is the end of it. Best case, they investigate and there is compensation paid to my BF (even though they will take their fee).
It is worrying though how they had his information about this loan. They actually called him at work not on his mobile. I am not sure if they told him that he definitely had PPI or whether they would investigate it for him. This is not one for paying attention to detail...... much to my annoyance.
Does it sound like CAG are much the same as all other PPI investigation companies? Or are CAG particularly known for being once of the worse ones out there?
Thank again for all your input.0
