Hi all,
We're now at the stage of putting a new bathroom in. We need a bath, basin and loo. We've already bought a Mira flight shower tray but now need the enclosure and actual shower. Can anyone recommend where to buy please that doesn't cost the earth?, are any of the eBay shops ok? Or Victoria plumb? Ideally I think id like a free standing bath if possible.
Thanks for any advice/help

My basin shower and toilet came from Victoria Plumb, all have been in for a couple of years now without any problems and they look smart, I prefer to see an enclosure though to get a feel of how nicely it slides or opens and to see how thick the glass and framework is, if you try your local bathroom stores you may be able to get an ex display one or you could find the make and model to suit you then find it cheaper online.0

go to a reputable plumbers merchant, who have a showroom and be honest and tell them your budget, you will be able to play about with the shower enclosures on display to feel the differences in the engineering quality and if they have staff that know there stuff they will find you the right product at the right price.
Shower doors are made of glass and toilets and basins are made of sanitaryware all fragile and not good for transporting after ordering on the internet, go local, they will have something to suit and you will get good back up if anything does go wrong0 -
I always like to get some inspiration for a look and then search for the most cost effective retailer to get the look I want. As a rule, a plain or neutral suite will be timeless and you can update decor and accessories around it. I'd recommend using pinterest or something like theroomedit.com to get some ideas first. I know they have freestanding baths at lots of different price points.0

I bought my toilet pan and bath from Victoria Plumb. They were considerably cheaper than buying them locally. However the bath was damaged in delivery and Victoria Plumb refused to take the damaged one back so I had to dispose of it myself and I had to wait about a week for a delivery timeslot for the replacement. You have to way up the cost savings with the potential inconvenience and waste of time.Solar install June 2022, Bath

We brought ours from Victoria Plumb and had no problems with them0

I'm with Alan.t, local plumbers' merchant. Get a good one & they will have lots that you can touch & play with, they'll be able to recommend better &/or cheaper alternatives, if there's anything you specifically want they'll get it, they'll be flexible on price & if anything needs replacing they're just up the road. When we did our extension we used Plumbase for everything for two bathrooms but the next time we went to City Plumbing because the sales lady had moved there & she was brilliant so we followed her!Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

We have built a new downstairs shower room plus refitted the upstairs bathroom. We looked at a lot of retailers, both on line and in store and in the end we bought from Victorian Plumbing. Please note they are NOT the same firm as Victoria Plumb. They were great.0

We bought most of the stuff for our bathroom from Victoria Plumb. I know some people don't rate them but they worked out very well for us. There was an issue with the basin which was only identified when it was being fitted, and they were very quick to send a replacement (next day delivery). As stated above they didn't want to collect the damaged item but this was OK as we had a skipful of other stuff to dispose of -- we were refitting the bathroom after all!
I don't quite understand the comment about glass and sanitaryware being too fragile to buy online and have delivered. You are aware that the goods you buy in shops still made in the same factories and delivered in trucks, right?0 -
You can't compare a internal delivery that Ideal Standard, PTS etc use.Handled by there own staff, there own trucks and not by a third party shipper who's only interest is meeting targets .
Yes online sites are much cheaper but you are buying unbranded, unwarranted items. For branded items your local trade showroom should be able to match or beat Internet prices
In the many years I've been installing bathrooms I've had countless faulty products, the likes of a Ideal stand by there warranty, offering replacement and compensation for re installtion, wasn't so long ago they coughed up £3500 for a delaminated bath....try getting service like that from a online retailerHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
the comment about fragile goods being delivered, comes from years of experience of having carriers throw fragile goods about in front of their customer as they don't care what it is, its just a box to them and masses of goods turning up damaged.
As above if it gets delivered on the manufacturers own transport with their own trained staff there is hardly ever a problem0
