Refunds on Paypal recurring payments

Hi,

Not sure if this goes here, but -

I was paying for an online service with a UK company which is £10.00 a month; I cancelled my service on their end a few days before the next bill date, after one month from Feb > March, and they terminated it right away.

What I didn't realize was that it was set up as Paypal recurring payment which they have no control over, and needs to be cancelled on my end even after their service to me was terminated and my access removed.

Fast forward, I don't often check my Paypal as I generally only use it for one off payments, but I realized that for 4 months I had been paying £10/month to them for nothing.

I have opened a few tickets over the weeks now just to get responses along the lines of "We will chase it up now" etc, but I have still seen no result or no update on them. I was wondering mainly for peace of mind where I stand with this? They are UK company and don't have a bad reputation or anything, but can they legally turn around and tell me that they wont give me the money back for any reason?

They haven't provided me with any goods or services during these payments and I'm surprised systems like these don't have some sort of flag when people are effectively paying them money for a cancelled service, but I guess it isn't so bad for them if people forget about it.

I have been tactful in my messages to them so far because I don't want to irk them if they have every right to refuse me a refund, but it is starting to get a bit tiresome having to keep contacting them over it.

Do they have a telephone number you can try get someone on / an address to write to? How long has it been since they said "We will chase it" to now?
