Car Hire Refund. How to proceed?

So you booked...oh no you didn't...
and what you (or 'they') "thought" is not relevant. You failed to read their T&Cs; you failed to ensure the details you gave were accurate.
Detail really isn't your strong point. So you knew it was 23 to hire a car and technically you are in a couple of months but wanted the car when you were 22. So they lost the booking and profit because technically you lied, so why do you actually think you should have a refund?
You're luck you're not being done for fraud.
I didn't collect the car. How does that make me a fraud? Some serious accusations here for such a small matter. I went up to the counter. Told them exactly what my age was and realized my mistake. If I were to lie, I could've told them I was 25 or something. Now THATS fraud. Not this.
Well now that I know MSE members (very senior ones nonetheless) just love to jump on the bandwagon of flaming people, I guess very few people can offer proper advice apart from people like pinkshoes and cono1717. :T I'm not even looking for people to be on my side. Just wanted someone to hear if my case is worth pursuing.0 -
You said you selected 23 since you're 23 in two months, not accidentally.
I'm a little confused - you said you wanted to amend the booking before pick up, but you didn't start the amendment process until after you had tried to pick it up?0 -

My pickup time was 10pm. I arrived early 9PM+ to sort out the collection process. I realized about the complications that arise at about 9.15PM and thus started calling up the booking operator.0 -
So technically you were 22 years old not 23 as this was technically deception the company are probably quite within their rights to technically refuse a refund.0

Put it this way, if you were to book a flight ticket, and wanted to change your flight to another date/time and there was no one to facilitate that amendment. That is what I'm trying to convey. It doesnt matter what my reason was. Because the transfer could have been done.0 -
A transfer could be done less than an hour before the scheduled pickup time? Their T&Cs say that?0

Amendments
You can amend your rental online, free of charge, at any point before your rental is due to start. If you amend something that affects the rental price (e.g. location, car group or length of rental) you’ll be charged at the current published price, which may be different from what you originally paid.
Please call us if your pick-up time is less than 48 hours away and you wish to amend your booking.
Please note: prices are based on the pick-up and drop-off times and dates that you arrange before your rental starts. If you pick the car up any later or bring it back any earlier, you will not receive a refund for unused hours or days.
An amendment would be/should be as fast as making a new booking, which would be 10 minutes tops. I would say I'd do it myself via their website but I was in the airport with no access to a laptop. And they also advised to call up. Which I did. Of course, I understand it was a last minute thing. But it was before pickup time nonetheless.0 -
But you do not appear to realise or admit is that the whole problem stems from your deception it is no good saying it was a technical thing (good word technically isn't it, it can be used as an excuse for many things), you cannot try to blame the other company for something that you caused yourself, if you had not lied about your age they would have quite happily hired you a vehicle, the problem is entirely of you own making, it is hardly their fault that you tried to change things at such a late hour after they had refused to hire you a car.0

If my flight was delayed and I wanted an amendment to a later time and nobody picked up my phone to help me out. Would you feel the same way?:o0 -
OP, what was the company you used to make the booking? The reason I ask is so that we can look in more detail at the terms and conditions you agreed to when booking. If for example they state that not having the required documents at the time of pick, would result in no refunds then you would have no comeback regardless if they offer a free ammendment service to those with the correct documentation.0
