Bluetooth Hands Free alternative?

We just had a new company Audi A1 delivered, which although nice, has failed to have Bluetooth installed (even the garage couldn't work it out on the settings!)

Anyway to cut a long story short, and no go to the cost of retro-fitting this, what alternatives are there for just making and receiving calls whilst travelling, so as not to break the law and answer a call :rotfl:

We actually have an Aux In within the car which is fine for music and audio from our iPhone 5's but its just the calls.

Is there a simple solution as in a mic that we could buy and attach to sun visor to talk and still use the Aux out cable for the car to hear the caller?

Or maybe a comfortable headset with Mic (instead of the white apple earbuds) ?

This maybe our purchase now, so any money saving solutions would be a great alternative.

Thanks

I would not advise driving while wearing a headset.

Does the car have sat-nav or do you use a Garmin/TomTom device?

I use 2 phones - one is connected to the car by Bluetooth and the other to my Garmin also by Bluetooth.

The Garmin system works fine - just as good as the car's Bluetooth.

Parrot system. Or you can get clip on sun visor mic and loudspeaker.

The Parrot system is good - but depending on model choice could cost more than a Garmin or TomTom with Bluetooth capability.

If you look on the usual sites for "bluetooth" "visor" there are no end of clip-on rechargeable hands free speakers that Rich mentions, for about £15.

I had one for a while, fine for receiving calls useless to make them, it activated the joke "voice dialling" on the iphone so I would clearly say "Home" and it would respond "calling doctors".

  • Best bet would be a satnav with bluetooth.. They can be had for under £100 now or to save money just use the speaker phone which I know on the iphones they are loud enough for car use.

    Thank you

After some research I have found things like this that would plug into an Aux Socket which we now have in the car probably as a replacement?

Does this make calls and work ok from the Bluetooth phone in the car?

    Not really.
It is to provide a hands free function, that you want, but will not override whatever you are listening to unless you always play your 'phone music through the car stereo.

Put "bluetooth visor" in the eBay search box and pick one of those.

No that would only work if you put the radio on to aux mode when receiving a call It is just a really expensive invisible cable in that it will still just use the phones mic. This device is more for playing sotify through your phone into the radio.

I had an Advantgarde or something like that Bluetooth Visor. Paid about £12 off ebay and it was superb. Granted it will never be quite as good as a parrot/sat nav kit but for £12 it did the job.

I also have an iphone and even now my built in one sometimes calls "mum" when i say "home".

Perhaps the missus has programmed it as a hint to !!!!!! off :)
