Building regs for sockets near sink

I've hit a problem planning the sockets in my kitchen extension.
I've put the sink on the far right (see picture) and assumed I could have some sockets (in red) on the wall as far from the sink as possible (400mm away).
My electrician has just told me that to pass building regs they need to be 800mm away from the sink. After a quick Google search, I can only find threads saying 300mm is necessary. Can any electricians confirm it's 800mm?

300mm, even then it's in BS7671 ("17th Edition Wiring Regs") which is only "guidance for best practice". It's as close as I fit them. :-)
Not sure where he gets 800mm from, thats nearly a metre! Should be RCD protected anyway so no biggy. Worse is when I find then BEHIND a flippin hob!0 -
I must admit that the only references I can find are the minimum 300m.
I would ask your electrician to show you evidence of the 800mm requirement. It should be in the 17th edition of IEE wiring regulations which isn't free to download so can't checkThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. I may be wrong but I don't think there is a distance mentioned in the 17th edition a proper sparky will be along to tell you if I am right or wrong.
I think the building regs mention 300mm as a minimum so 400mm would be ok.0 -
Great thanks, I thought 800mm was quite far. I've seen some tiny kitchens so wondered how they would get any sockets in there.
So I won't have a problem failing building regs?0
