You shouldn't need to top up as long as the level is above MIN. If there is a sudden drop in level, there is a leak that needs fixing. If it goes below MIN without a leak, the light comes on and the brakepads are worn out.

If you top up as the pads wear, when you replace the pads the reservoir overflows (unless you remove some first) and as modern "paint" is barely waterproof, by the time you realise and run to get something to wash it off you have no paint left under the bonnet.
