Advice needed about a Bosch Hoover please!

Hi there,

This is my first post and I hope it's in the right place! 64 weeks ago I brought a Bosch Hoover from Argos for £150. Over the last 3 months the red lights been coming on sporadically, so I phoned Bosch who said they would send an engineer out but only if I have the receipt which I looked for but cannot find as it was so long ago. Argos said to contact Bosch. Does anyone know if I can get any help from either Bosch or Argos? :( I went to the bank to get a statement from back then but it just says Argos £150 and not the specific Hoover details. :(

    A Bosch or a Hoover ??

Red lights usually mean clogged filters or such .

Go back to Argos with your bank statement under SOGA its up to them to get it sorted .

A bank statement is enough for your statutory rights - however your statutory rights also mean that after 6 months, its technically for you to prove the goods are inherently faulty.

The manufacturer usually offer a warranty - but this can have conditions attached to it (such as requiring the receipt rather than just proof of purchase).

I'd contact bosch and see if this is enough. If not, try argos. Perhaps their head office will be able to locate their merchant copy of the receipt (not all businesses will do this, and there is no requirement for them to do this - but it doesnt hurt to ask). Or failing that, try pointing out that if the machine is inherently faulty, they'd be liable for the cost of a report and their own contractors/engineers would likely be able to provide the same service much cheaper to them.

However last time I purchased something that required sending off for repair, they didnt ask for the report, they just had me fill out a form saying if it was user damage, i may be liable to a fee of £50 i think it was (was around 5 years ago though!).

Thank you for your replies. Sorry we call all vacuum cleaners hoovers here where we are from! Yeah there's no clogged filters I've taken it all apart to check! I will follow both pieces of advice and keep my fingers crossed!
