Two defaults the same debt?

Hi all,
Sorry if this is a simple one but can someone please clarify:
I had a credit card with Barclaycard. The outstanding balance is £1,273. They have left a default on my account.
This has been passed onto MKDP. They have also left a default on my credit file for £1,273.
I have two defaults showing for the same debt/balance.
Should this happen? I have been in contact with MKDP who have given me a settlement figure but if I partially settle what happens to the Barclaycard default as I want to clear up my report?
Thanks in advance

Can be recorded more than once, subject to a few conditions.
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3172602CRA Defaults - Recording of defaults relating to debts that have been sold.
The practice of selling/buying debts is widely used. As long as the information is correctly recorded on a credit file by the lender selling the debt and the lender buying the debt, then two entries relating to one account would not be considered to be a breach of the Data Protection Act provided that:-- both recorded entries are shown as being in relation to the same account/debt;
- the original debt entry should be shown on the credit file as being either ‘settled' or ‘zero' balance and should show that the debt has been ‘re-assigned’;
- the new DC who shows the debt in their name should maintain the original default date and the correct balances;
- the retention period for maintaining the information on a credit file should be based on the original default date regardless of who is responsible for the entry/debt.

Thanks for your post. The amount is showing outstanding by both Barclaycard and MKDP.
Should I contact Experian as you post states that Barclaycard should show settled or zero?0 -

Hi Themadhouse,
Please do contact us and we can get this queried with Barclaycard for you.
As Fermi has said the original account should be marked as satisfied, and flagged as "Debt Assigned". Any lenders searching your report will then be aware that the debt has been sold and may appear elsewhere on the report.
I look forward to hearing from you.

That's a very good question. I recently moved house, informed everyone of my new address, my old address was linked and both my old address and new address had the same accounts with one exception, British Telecom. That followed to my new address 4 months later.0
