  • Thanks for that Fightsback. That is indeed what I meant.

By using Win 8.1 (and the upgrade to Win 10) you will receive MS support (ie. updates, patches etc.) for longer than if you are using Win 7.

As for stability, I'm find Win 8.1 to be very stable.

That one company already mentioned for selling laptops without an OS looks great, does anyone have any others?
I've just bought one from https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/. Very competitive prices and good service and of course you can buy without OS like I did :)

beware of novatech , I bought a Gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2V LGA1150 Micro ATX Motherboard , via there ebay site (old stock /used?)

when I came to use it , the bios looked different to the book , and when it fired up it had a novatech logo , upon checking the bios number it was not a gigabite number , so I reflashed it to the correct one, guess what? , a lot of masked out options suddenly became available.

looks like we are getting back to the "altered" bios , used by the likes of dell and **** *ack*** ,

or buy any laptop you like , remove the HD and fit a new one = blank OS ;)

you could even use the old laptop drive formatted ...

use the removed drive as back up
