Personal accident insurance - car

I have just realised that my fully comprehensive car insurance only covers me for £5k personal injury compensation if I have an accident and there is no one else involved (ie no one else to claim from). So God forbid, I had a blow out in my car, crashed in to a brick wall and ended up being paralysed, all I would get would be £5k! Is this the norm for car insurance policies? Should I be looking for an additional insurance policy that covers personal accident insurance and is this going to cost a fortune to provide the cover needed? I've made some preliminary enquiries and the insurance company I spoke to said it is possible to buy this insurance but it is attached to a critical illness policy or life insurance. Anyone have any advice? Thanks
