TV display / picture fault

I bought a Sony TV in October last year and there is now a display fault. Do I have to accept a repair, or can I insist on a refund?
The fault wasn't present at the time of purchase.
They (PC world) have quoted 28 days for the repair, which is a long time for no TV, and having paid (on a credit card) a premium price (£549) for a premium bit of kit I'm very disappointed that it problematic after just 9 months.

Yes they have the right to repair it. Chances are good though that it gets replaced because repairs are usually uneconomical on these TV's now, so if it's not something simple they can replace it as a second option or refund (possible part refund) as a last resort.0

Smiffy I believe you've either misheard them or haven't told the full story here, as they'll quote the maximum possible repair time before exchange happens.
Usually it's about 7 to 10 days, but 28 days is the maximum repair time before exchange happens.
And yes, as being without a TV isn't a significant inconvenience, a repair, even if it does take 4 weeks, wouldn't infringe on your consumer rights (in all but the most extreme circumstances).0 -
In the rare event you do get offered a refund don't expect the full £549. It'll probably be a proportionate refund minus the 9 or so months use you've had from it.
Given the age of the TV I would imagine a repair will be carried out, I'd be very surprised if parts weren't still available after such a short space of time.0 -
The quoted 28 days is worst case. Most of the time it'll be much quicker than that.0

Also, £549 won't be considered a premium bit of kit to a company that sells TVs for £19,999. If you try to take that argument with them, they may get their back up a little bit as they will frequently see much bigger purchases!0
