Stoneacre !!Desperatly need advice
I recently went to stoneacre dealers after seeing a car in their website, i took it for a test drive and it was lovely but it had private plates on. i was told the plates were going back to previous owner so thought no more of it. i paid a deposit and told them i would be back in 4 days to pay the full balance. 4 days later i phoned to tell them i would be in this at to collect the car and they said it was fine. . Note when i got there they sat me down and straight away said" "right let's get it paid and sorted. so all excited as i had saved for 5 years to buy this car 5,000 it cost and i know it's not alot of money to some but for me it was i paid the balance in cash. However i noticed the was now a new plate on the car and happened to ask how much it would cost to tax for 6 months just to get me going för now. i was watching the screen when he typed in the reg number that was note on the car and noticed it came up on the dvla site saying this car reg is not registered with the dvla.!
The sales guy looked at me then just got up and marched off, me and my mum just looked at each other. He came back a few mins later and and apparently there is a transfer of plates in progress and should only take 4-5 days to register and i would recieved new v5 in the new plates in a few days yet they had already put new plates on the car that were not registered. I asked if this car had been hpi checked and again he looked at screen then marched off. at this point i started to feel uneasy. i asked to see reg document on the private plate number but he refused to let me see it, then said the previous owner only gave part of it and they phoned to ask for the rest but the owner declined to give it! ! I'm not understanding anything at this point. . my previous car had been signed over in part exchange for two years warranty because it really want worth anything.. do the paperwork on my car it was gone they had pressedme into paying quick and was gonna send me of in a car with plates on not even registered with the dvla because they wanted the private plates then to make matters worse they told me they could not give me v5 because it's in the private plate so i have to wait for the new one, the car is then not mot because not registered in new plates but they told me they would mot in new plates when it's registerd .. The next problem then became the fact that i could not tax it in my name because no papers however they told me it was still taxed till march 2016 so im fine , all whilst being extremely rude and honestly offence as the man told me "he didn't want to see my face ever again, well I'll have to when you come to transfer the plates and get documents but after that i never want to see it again. ."
Not once in the whole time the situating went from bad to worse was i rude or abusive, yet i want even offered an apology!!
So as it stand i have had the car for 4 days, have no mot, v5 supplement or tex in my name, have a tempeh insurance cover for the private plate number as i insured for the year in the plays i was given and paid it in full and have been driving around using someone else's tax which i have note found out is illegal and this is what stoneware have done to me*! Also the dame night i drive it out of dealers i park on a steep hill only to discover the handbrake doesn't work at all. And have been met with nothing but offensive remarks and a reallyrude attitude when trying to solve this. .
Please can anyone help with this.

You need to check what the warranty covers.. I can't help with the rest but I hope you reach an amicable conclusion.0 -
Well why have you insured it on the private plates knowing they was being transferred out?0

The rudeness is unacceptable and you should complain to the Dealer Priciple at Stoneacre, and perhaps copy the letter to Ford UK (although if the car isn't a Ford that may not be of much help).
I fear that your car may well be both untaxed and incorrectly insured at the moment, I would drive it very carefully back to the dealer and leave it there until you get everything resolved.0 -
The problem here is the very first word in the title of the thread.0

It's almost 100% certain that the registration number that the DVLA will allocate is theoriginal one that the car had on first registration.
What would appear to have happened is that in a rush to sell the car, Stoneacre have pre-empted the situation instead of waiting for the number transfer to be completed.
Of course the person whose cherished number it is should have put the number on retention prior to trading the car in - then all would have went smoothly.
So many people with so-called 'private' plates don't know/don't want/can't be bothered to do it themselves and leave it for the dealer to do for them.
Many dealers don't understand the new system for transferring cherished numbers, and give buyers rubbish info.0 -
Your car you part exchanged was worth nothing? Well you will probably find the warranty is worth nothing also.

Surely, now, any tax on the car is cancelled and new is needed before driving on the road?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Perfectly normal, insurers are used to this. It's certainly never caused me a problem (or a policy adjustment fee either) when I've bought and insured a car with private plates on that are in the process of being transfered off.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
DVLA will fine you for no tax, there is no grace period or good will.
It is a British tradition to leave your brain at home when spending large amounts of money and they have taken advantage of this, you need to call DVLA and find out how to tax the car.
They do not do excuses, they do fines.I do Contracts, all day every day.0
