PPI Claims - Timelines

Can anyone tell me, is there a time limit for banks to resolve PPI complaints?
I have been pursuing Lloyds since June last year and since then communication with them has been so slow. The have delayed, ignored, prevaricated and generally slowed the process down as often as they could.
I went to the Ombudsman in Feb this year, even that has dragged on; their best advice to me is to give Lloyds the chance to sort it - which helpfully they copied to Lloyds. That was a month ago, still no contact from Lloyds, let alone resolution!
Any advice would be gratefully received.

My complaint with Lloyds was sent off 3 weeks ago and they acknowledged it within 5 days and stated it will take up to 8 weeks to investigate and respond to me.
Did the ombudsman know they had had your complaint so long?
Have you followed it up with Lloyds since you wrote to the Ombudsman?
I rang Lloyds on Saturday and they were very helpful so maybe give them a ring and follow it up with a letter sent recorded asking for an update on your case. I'd be quick though as they may have responded to you and it could have got lost in the post so if this has happened and they rejected your complaint you only get six months to take it further.0 -
Just to add that I have seen on here that one person got their outcome after 3 weeks and another after 3 years so I don't think there is a time frame as long as you know they are actively investigating it and none of their correspondence has gotten lost I think you just have to sit tight. I may be wrong though

Carrera, thanks for that reply. My case is a little more complicated than the norm; without going into too much detail I am claiming on behalf of the estate of my late mother. Things are very frustrating as I said, but they have acknowledged my claim and are processing it - but just very slowly.
I really want to know if there is a timescale I can quote to them to shift them along a bit! The 8 weeks you mention above rings a bell with me, I am sure that is what I have read somewhere before, although I can't find the article now!0 -
Did you refer your case to the ombudsman or just phone them up for advice? If the former, Lloyds will be dealing with them now and not you so you cannot speed them up at all.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

taff, yes I referred it to the Ombudsman back in February, tbh they aren't exactly speedy either. The last correspondence I got from them (4-5 weeks ago) was telling me that they have written to Lloyds asking them to resolve the case, otherwise they would step in. Since then I have heard nothing from Lloyds, although when I called them 3 weeks ago, they acknowledged that the Ombudsman had written to them.0
