I am looking to purchase a domain name and would like to know which are the fairest UK registrars to deal with ?
Who have you used ?
Did you have any issues, were they resolved without too much grief ?
Thanks for any help ?

I usually use UK2.NET. They tend to be competitive on price and they sorted out a problem with a domain quite quickly & professionally once. Their site is nicely set-up and easy to use (for the few functions you need with domain registration).
TBH, hosting is much more of a considered purchase than domain registration.0 -
I generally use TSO Host but that is because I have a hosting package with them and it is for convenience sake, since I 'own' a fair few domains. Their online account management area is pretty simple to navigate as well.
Price wise, they're usually good. They have 24/7 support which is apparently based in the UK. I've only ever used their email support service once to sort out a minor issue and it was fixed within the hour. Not sure how good their phone-based support services are.0 -
123-reg
easily
names
godaddy
fasthosts
they are all much of a muchness, the only one that i have heard of issues is 1and1, although that may have been the user rather than them?
But a few reviews did seem to say their support is not very good.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Do you use UK's ID prtection with your domain name registration ?
Do you use UK2 for Webhosting also ?
If i register with slightly altered info to protect my identity from spamming, do i invalidate my ownership of the domain name ?0 -

Thanks Cornucpoia, I just checked a friend's domain name and got the following:
"Registrant's address:
The registrant is a non-trading individual who has opted to have their
address omitted from the WHOIS service."
Is this option available for domain name that are personal rather than commercial use ?0 -

Yes, that's the idea.
Now that I've checked, my domains actually have my old address rather than anonymity. Same outcome.
It looks as though the address is validated only at the point of initial registration. I suppose they could re-validate it, and then create a vast amount of work for themselves in sorting out all the changes.0 -
Just be aware that if you're planning to use the website in the course of a business then certain rules (Nominet, who manage all UK domain registrations, or business law - or perhaps both) require proper registration details ... name, address, contact details. If a business doesn't do this and Nominet receive a complaint, then they'll likely ask the registrant to update their details. If this doesn't happen then Nominet have the right to pull the domain.0

Check out Enom for domain registration .. For hosting I have faced real problems with UK2 will not recommend them for hosting.0

Thanks, I wonder how this differs with .com registrations. Would they be subject to US law ?0
