NUM lock on Windows 8.1 Acer Laptop

I am getting really annoyed with my NUM lock constantly being off whenever I turn my computer on from either off or being in sleep/hibernation mode.
I googled how to turn it on all the time and I changed the registry settings, but that hasn't worked. It's still keeping it off.
Does anyone know how to change it so Num lock stays on all the time unless I specifically turn it off?
