Under 25 Car Rental Aboard

Hi Guys,

I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to find a car rental company in France that will allow people under 25 to rent their cars without adding an extra surcharge. Everywhere I try seem to add on a sneeky €25 (roughly) per day surcharge. So if your trying to rent a car for 7 days you end up forking out an extra €175 just because your under 25… that on top of the car rental!

I'm pretty sure it isn't something that compulsary that the companys are charging by law (I might be wrong though). Does anyone know any young driver friendly car rental companies that might be able to help me out?

No, it's not compulsory. But it is like insurance. Under 25's are seen as a much higher risk and therefore have to pay the penalty. Unfortunately all under 25's get swept up regardless of their driving record.

I think you'll be extremely lucky to find a reputable company hiring out decent and safe motors that does not make a such a charge.

That's as I suspected… its still annoying though. I'm 25 a couple of months after I'll be hiring the car which make it especially frustrating!

Never mind, I'll keep hunting & if I can find anywhere I'll post them up on here. Thanks for replying!

Think all car hire companys are the same.

Funny story,

My ex boyf is a pilot. Once upon a time he was working out of exeter airport. His shift the next day was from Southampton so the company told him to get a hire car and drive to southampton. He went to the car hire desk at the airport and as he was only 23 at the time they said he would be charged £60!!! extra for the hire car!

Now he wasnt paying, the company was BUT it still annoyed him. He said to the nice lady at the desk, "you see that Big shiny plane out there", "Yesss" she said, "ive just flown, landed, and parked that there and your telling me i cant drive a car properly because im only 23!!!" she laughed and actually waived the charge!

I understand why they do it but its a bit unfair to tarnish everyone with the same brush, especially if you can prove you have never had any accidents etc before!

Never used them myself, but I remember reading elsewhere that https://www.carhireworldwide.net are quite good for under 25s. Might be worth a try.
