I find that it make life easier if you have set up an everyday E saver with them as well as the regular saver - then they just send the capital and interest from the maturing regular saver to the e account and you can transfer it out through your current account immediately.

They'll set up a new Savings Account if you don't have an Everyday e-Saver or Savings Account already.

But probably not on a weekend.

If you need your money urgently, you could perhaps give them a call?

I don't have a First Direct a/c but was thinking of switching this weekend. If I do it this evening, I presume it'll be too late to also open the 6% reg saver and have the first payment go in today?

Did you try calling them? They'll know the answers. Or you could read their FAQ?

If you can simply open another account, straight after, at the 6% rate, why don't they just have a fixed savings account at 6% but which you can only access once/ year or something?

That's effectively what they have. At an affordable cost, without having to create complex terms and conditions and complex system support.

My regular saver matured yesterday and I transferred the funds from there to my 1st account. I then opened another regular saver and it took the first instalment. As a consequence I had two regular savers showing with the original having a zero balance when I looked this morning.

This isn't how it has worked in previous years but it's an improvement.

Just checked my accounts today and the regular saver funds have been transferred to the E-saver that was already there.

The regular saver is still there though with a zero balance?
