Thats pretty normal for the DirectX installer to do that. Usually it checks what is needed, then installs it.

which would suggest it didn't need to install anything because you already had it on the pc, which make sense with Windows 7.

Often the directx installer is a separate window. So maybe the game installer isn't coming back up afterwards, or maybe it had finished ?

did you check to see if the game was actually installed on the pc once it closed?
Check the directory you installed it into (most default to somewhere in program files)
See if there is the exe file you can run

    so i ran dxdiag

diplay and sound 2 gave "No problems found"
sound 1 stated: The file TCNearAudio.sys is not digitally signed

i wonder if that is causing some problem in the installation
TC is my soundcard (TC Electronic), which is functioning fine otherwise

DirectX is backwards compatible. If the gpu works with DX10/11 then it will work fine with 9.

you could try running dxdiag, and see if it flags up any problems.

while the graphics card is pretty poor, it shouldn't really have any problems with it.

what actually is the problem with the game ?
Not true. Many games require version 9 even if later versions are installed.

Op - have you manually installed 9 yet?

The sound drivers not being digitally signed shouldn't matter too much.
it may mean the drivers are out a date, but not all hardware has digitally signed drivers, especially older hardware

it wont really effect the installation of a game

cycrow, nothing in the programme list.
i don't even get to the point in the installation where it asks me to assign destination folder.
aggrainall - thanks for the video i will take a look

well seeing as the legit version is not working, i will try the dodgy version of torrent, maybe more luck with that, seeing as i've paid for it
