Can I geta refund on prescription medicin?

Can I get a refund on prescription medicine?
I bought two prescriptions Saturday morning, by Saturday afternoon my husband had had an allergic reaction to the medicine resulting in us spending the night up A&E. I understand that there is a form (NHS receipt form FP57) I need to fill in to get a refund, but I should have asked for it when I bought the medication. But I didn't know he was going to have a reaction. Any advice? I got prescription at sainsbury pharmacy.

My O.H had a reaction to medication he was given from a local chemist. I took it back the following day ,explained ,and they exchanged it. There are so many named and generic medicines that reactions are possible.

There are members on here that work in chemists so they may advise better, as mine is a personal experience.

Hope your O.H is feeling better.

The prescription fee is not like paying for an item in an ordinary shop. It's a tax and I suspect any refund would be from the pharmacy's pockets, not the Chancellor

If the drugs that you received were the ones that the doctor prescribed and not a generic variant then that is the person you need to approach

You can only get a refund if you paid for a prescription that you should have got free due to exemption/ pre-payment card etc but weren't able to furnish the proof when collecting it.

Pmduk and !!!!!! are correct. The prescription fee is better described as a prescription tax and the fee would not be refundable in these circumstances . However, if your husband was known to be allergic to the drug and was prescribed it anyway , you might be able to get the surgery to refund the fee.
