Weren't pregnant women once advised to lick coal for its nutritional benefits?

Lets be honest, coal and oil are a finite resource. Its a no brainer to me while its cheaper to import we should do so, its a win win all round we get to exploit cheap imports and once it starts to run out and the price shoots up we cash in by extracting them locally

    Maybe.

At work we look at something called 'stranded assets'.

The idea is that if carbon emissions are going to be limited in future then there are mines and oil fields that are owned by companies that will be limited in law because Governments will ban their use or tax them to the point they are uneconomic.

The Saudis, who know a thing or two about the oil business, seem to be trying to get all of the oil they can out of the ground.

Wind turbines are crap as well, they shouldn't be subsidised and soon won't be .

Thought it's only for onshore wind that Osborne's cutting out the subsidies, though?
Shale + nuclear + waste processing is the future

And tidal - unlike wind and wave (which is reliant upon wind) we're guaranteed 4 tidal movements per day, 8 in some places, until some time in the future when the Moon finally moves far enough away that it can no longer exercise sufficient gravitational influence.

Yes, but the whole point of subsidising wind energy is that it does not produce C02 emissions. Neither does it produce any of the other carp that burning coal chucks into the atmosphere.

What about emissions caused during manufacture, transport to site and installation?

Coal is one of the filthiest fuels, it should be left in the ground. Nuclear is the only clean, reliable and safe power source.

True but it only produces energy when wind blows and with no practice way of storing that energy at the moment it's far from ideal.

I'm not saying it's ideal. I'm not even saying it's any good. I'm saying it doesn't produce CO2. Or any other pollutants for that matter.

Dunno. How do they compare to the emissions caused during manufacture, transport to site and installation of a coal-fired power station?

Just goes to show we are not living in a free market economy.

    Really?
Does that statement include the waste products of fission; their storage and ....... disposal?
Does that statement include events at Chernobyl and Fukushima?
