Composite door in existing upvc frame.

Hi all,
Am I able to get a composite door fitted into an existing frame for a upvc frame? A search on Google doesn't bring up any obvious answers.
I've got a naff upvc door panel and was planning on getting this replaced, but would ideally like to go down the composite route if possible.
Thanks!

So yes they should be able to be fitted into a UPVC frame, (many new composites sre UPVC frame fitted new anyway).0 -
Why would you want to fit a new door into an existing frame?
Not impossible, but it would be a nightmare. The profiles and thickness of the doors would have to be identical for the inner and outer seals to to seal properly. Then there is the problem of locking plates, hinges . . . etc
Different manufacturers use different profiles, or a manufacturer may use different profiles for a specific range of doors or depending what day of the week it is
Much easier and cheaper to replace both door and frame.0 -

+1 here. On a practical basis the request is not possible. I am open to suggestions, but I have not come across a composite door supplied without a frame.0 -

I would advise you to replace your door completely. Last year i tried the same, it was a nightmare. It is difficult to seal properly when you try to fit a new door in existing frame. At last i approached heritage homes near my home in Toronto and installed a custom door. But trying to do it myself i spend more money than it would have actually cost me0

We've just had ours replaced. It needs a new frame because the old UPVC door closed AGAINST the old frame, whereas the new door closes WITHIN the new frame. Completely different design. Like an old fashioned wood door would've.How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)0

Thanks so much for the replies everyone! Loads of really useful information. Sorry for not replying sooner - I'd had a couple of beers before posting that question and forgot to check back.
The problem is that we've only just redecorated the living room, and to replace the door frame I imagine would require a certain amount of upheaval and making good. The transom above the door was also blanked out, so we recently replaced that with a glass unit. So rather than ripping out the frame and putting a new one in, I'd hoped we could get a new door installed in the frame we already had.
The upvc door we've got at the moment was put in by the previous owners is pretty pants, with a naff pink rose glass-insert. I guess just replacing the door panel for something plainer will do for now.
Thanks again.0
