You think you've got it bad. My neighbours were shouting at 4am last night, and then started banging on the walls. They even came yelling round to my front door, hammering away.
Luckily I was already awake playing my drums.
This one never fails to make me laugh!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
"OP go round to theirs and just say something along the lines of 'I hope our noise doesn't travel' and get them thinking about it."
If you go down this route, make sure there has been some noise for them to hear, because if they can't hear you they will assume you can't hear them.0 -
Why don't you just chill out?
You chose to live in a house that is attached to another, knowing that there was a chance noise would travel. You accepted that risk and got lucky for a long time as your neighbours were quiet. Now another couple have moved in and you're moaning at the first sign of any noise.
If they were making unnecessary noise, I'd agree with you. But so far you're complaining about a bit of noise on the day they've moved in and now you think they have no right to go out to work all day and work on the house in the evenings, just because it annoys you?
I'm beginning to wonder who really has the potential to be a nightmare neighbour here...
Don't even get me started on the "young people bashers" in this thread. There are good and bad of all ages, colours, genders, nationalities...0 -
its funny how we all view things differently
We have had a new young family move in across the road and the noise is unbelievable - and I love hearing it
I live in a tiny hamlet, there have been no children here the past 13 years, most of us are getting on in years, its a pleasure to hear a young family
We are all detached btw - but noise travels further in the country ( so it seems)0 -
The place next door was rented and we would get new neighbours every few months and they would be also most straight out of Uni. so they though they could do the same as they did there. Drink, drugs and sex - moved out.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

Not that simplistic though is it?
I don't have a choice. My low wages and ridiculous house prices locally mean moving isn't an option unless I sell and buy a leasehold flat.
As I said in my OP, I fully expected noise from the new neighbours moving in, along with building work as the house needs a new roof for a start.
Kevie192, My issue was the shouting...and if you actually read my posts you'll *see* that.0 -
To be honest I think it all requires a bit of give & take. We had neighbours that would play drums all weekend, but then I would work on the bike and car, sometimes revving them quite high to test/check things.
I never said anything about their drums and they never said anything about my bike/car. However I do remember one neighbour complained to the council (without speaking to us first) because the radio was on "too loud" in the middle of the day while doing work outside.
Politely told the council lady who called to go do one, because she had dates, but when I pressed for times she couldn't say anything as it was middle of the day, at the weekend.
Also once, round at a friends house when I was on my bike leaving and a load of us in cars (which are loud to be fair, but not being revved, just idling) were also leaving one guy came out and started recording so he could "show the council" because we were "always making noise". Again, this was at about 5pm on a Saturday!!! Told him to go do whatever he wanted, but all the cars & bikes were legal, we were doing nothing illegal and it was middle of the day on a Saturday.
Nothing came of it in the end, council didn't do jack because there is nothing they can do about some cars making noise at that time.
Life requires a bit of give & take. If people don't moan about me & my cars/bikes, then I won't moan about whatever it is they are doing, unless it is at stupid o'clock. Like I would never make excessive noise at 2am and I expect the same in return, but 7pm, make all the noise you want and let me do the same should I need to.
There was also another friends neighbour who was particularly bad. Went to pick him up at 2pm on a Saturday, said he would be 5 mins, so I waited in the car with it idling, and being an Evo it was quite loud, but it was just sitting there idling, no revving or anything silly. Then his neighbour comes out and tells me she is going to call the police if I don't turn it off. Again, told her to go and call who she likes, I didn't care.
Had she politely came and asked me to turn off the car, I would have likely done it, but to just come out and have a go at me because it's a bit loud, well tough.
Had that car for 6 years, leaving early morning at 6am to go to work, trying to keep the revs down so I don't wake up my neighbours and never had a single problem with anyone that lived near me. Just seemed to have issues when visiting friends who had arsey neighbours.0
