Panasonic smart tv - Netflix too slow. Help needed

Hopefully somebody can help!
We bought a Panasonic Viera smart tv a couple of months ago. All set up ok. We have used a few apps - youtube and Iplayer - neither are great, and keep buffering and stopping.
Well, my children wanted Netflix - so I have signed up. Our broadband speed is 5mbps (I just checked). Netflix works brilliantly on our laptop, iPad, iPod, Nexus tablet, and iMac - we can watch it on 2 devices at the same time, with no problems. But when we try and watch it on the tv (which is where we really want to watch it), it takes ages and ages to load, then keeps stopping and buffering.
What I am wanting to know is, how we can watch it on our tv without the above problems. Does anyone know? Would getting something like chromecast work? or is there something else we could do?
When I bought the tv (from John Lewis) it was a new model with hardly any reviews. Looking at their website now, there are a few people saying the tv is too slow for iplayer etc, so I imagine that is where the problem lies (rather than our broadband).
Thank you in advance

How far from the wireless router is it? (presuming wireless). Can you try and run a network cable directly into the TV to see if it improves?Pants0

Have you got a playstation or Xbox you could try it with?
I had similar problems with my lg tv and netflix. I got an Apple TV and used it through that instead but not for long as I switched to nowtv. Haven't had any buffering with that.0 -
It's about 6 metres away. I guess we could try a cable, but our iPads etc work with Netflix and they are further away than the tv. Or is the 'signal' (or whatever you call it) better on the iPads than a smart tv?0

What model is it? I have very occasionally experienced slow downs on Netflix with my Viera but pausing for a short time usually allows it to catch up, and turning Netflix off and back on always works. I think your wireless connection is more likely to be the cause but perhaps there is a specific issue with your model. In that case I'd contact John Lewis to ask what they might do about it.0

Actually, my son does have a ps3. It is connected to a tv in his room (not connected to wifi as yet). I guess I could move it to the living room (if he will let me!).
I'm assuming your apple tv worked ok with your 'slow' tv?0 -

A question not an answer - why, in 2015, would you buy a less-than HD 32" television? I understand not having space (or distance) enough for a 40" model but was annoyed myself with Panasonic not making HD televisions. I am having to change brand. First time for ages I'll not be buying a Panasonic.0

I bought a Panasonic last month 32 inch and the apps don't work. It is because my wifi is too far away 16 feet or near enough, plus the sofa in the way doesn't help. No xbox etc( I do have a 10 metre cable), but can't be bothered with it across the living room. Smart seemed to be the only ones available, apart from discontinued models being on sale. As I was given the money for the TV, I class it as a gift.
To answer Nada666, the HD channels are much clearer than the normal on this TV compared to my old Samsung. A friend got a full HD last year and, to be honest the picture on mine is just as clear. In fact friend's husband insisted on setting mine up, he said the HD picture was brilliant and just as good as his TV.0
