Not sure if already linked somwehere, but just saw this on mail website..

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3174049/Victory-drivers-cowboy-car-park-firms-Half-fines-overturned-fightback-against-zealous-wardens.htm

Always good to see them referred to as cowboys etc!!!
Helps highlight the fight!!!
Appeals are on the rise, can only be thanks to forums like this..
Since my PCN I have spread word of mouth to over a dozen friends, familes, and colleagues, none of whom knew the truth about PCN's and like me until recently thought they were the same as parking tickets and have, and would have still, paid them!!!

2 years ago I was ignorant of these topics and rules and charges, learned a lot , helped a lot of people and sorted out quite a few for family and friends

I saw today on Barry Beavis`s twitter that somebody puts bags over their plates so they cannot be read on these private car parks

now as its a private access road and private car park on these retail parks etc, I dont see why we cant do the same as the hoodies the scallys wear due to all the CCTV, in other words I dont see any offence being committed if you cover up your VRN on private land

an interesting take on it anyway

what we really need are revolving plates like James Bond had on his aston martin db5 , lol ;)

Would an offence be committed if a different VRN was used, say one belonging to a PPC, as long as it was on private land? Not to defraud anyone of course, but just supposed a lawful double dip occurred with the VRN of a different vehicle.

I thought anything goes on private land.. I learnt to drive at 15 on a mates private land..
The only thing I have noticed, is a lot of the anpr mounts I have seen on retail parks are such that you would have to stop on the highway to avoid being nabbed by them as they are right on the boundary entrance, and then run the risk of driving a few yards on the road with them covered..

rather than cover totally, id prefer the route of getting some made up on ebay along the lines of "SCREW YOU" etc, fit hangers on the top and hang them over your plates as you drive in and out..!!!

There's private land and there's private land. If it's your mate's field or whatever, and there is no access to the public then, as you say, anything goes. But a private car park or private residential road is somewhere the public has access to. As such, all sorts of parts of driving and vehicle legislation still apply. So you can be done for drunk driving in a supermarket car park, and learn to drive in one at age 15, you'd be driving with no license and no insurance.
  • The fallacy that ANPR prevents abuse.
Any real abuser knows how to prevent being spycammed.
There again some may read into Mr Kirk's comments that ANPR can also police disabled bays

however if they capture your correct number , so much as 1 inch on the public road , they are breaking the law.
quite often there is a line of bitumen , or a change in road colour between public and private land , once your back wheels are over this , anything goes

I've also seen a refractive film that you can stick on windows which makes them obscure from any viewing angle except near straight on. Given that PE cameras are necessarily mounted high up and "view" the number plate at a significant angle I do wonder if this film would work to bamboozle them, whilst the number plate continues to look completely normal from "ground level".

An alternative to covering the plates would be to carry some black insulating tape and use a short strip of it to alter one of the characters - change a P into an R, an L into a U, a 3 into an 8, that sort of thing.

The corollary being, of course, that if you display the incorrect number so much as 1 inch on the public highway, you are breaking the law!
