Paypal lazy

Just ordered a 96euro item from Germany, the company accepted all cards and of course Paypal.

Its so easy to press the button instead of filling in bank details.

BUT then at the end you see the Paypal conversion rate

@ 1GBP = 1.36116 !!

Wouldn't mind but I'm with the Nationwide who always give excellent rates.

Not my finest MSE moment.

I bought perfume from France two weeks ago and paid by PayPal. The rate they charged was the same as other exchange rates, I did check round to see the going rate.

It makes me lazy for using Paypal.

Their rate is always worse than your Bank

I was pointing out that if I spent an extra 2 minutes typing in my card details I would have saved over £3.00 - thats a fair old hourly rate.

Last time I did this paypal gave me the option to get charged in the currency or I could stick with their rate, maybe you missed the option?

Thanks for that, didn't see the option, if there was one, paid via existing paypal funds.

But if you opt to 'get charged in the currency' whose conversion rate is used?

I believe it only works on card / bank transfer sales.

and you'll be charged the currency conversion rates set by your bank, usually just the Visa / MAstercard rates for cards, you should also bare in mind that if you do this, some banks make charges for non GBP purchases, TSB etc charge I think £1.50 for purchases in USD / Euro etc
