  • This is Deli Amore Spinach Riccotta pasta. The date (24th April) is a best before date.

The ingredients say it contains dairy. Pasta itself will keep a lot longer, that isn't the issue,.

    Dried grated parmesan contains dairy.

    Dried eggs are dairy.

    Baby milk contains dairy.

Containing dairy does not mean it cannot last aeons.

The only problem will be that the quality of the food - flavour and texture - may have deteriorated but the food shouldn't be unsafe.

Come back and haunt them - ghostly OS posts saying I told you so.

I have a slightly irrational take on best before dates. If I buy it in date and it goes out of date in my cupboard I'll happily eat it. But no way would I buy food already past the best before date - if I'm going to die I want it to be down to me, not anyone else else.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • I'm not averse to out of date food per se, it's just that every time i've eaten some it's tasted vile. The local costcutter does this all the time and the stuff, even a week old bit of swiss roll, tasted like satan's shoes.

In that case it is not "Out of date" in the way you seem to think. It's just past the minimum time the manufacturer says it will be at it best for.

Not out of the date where you can eat it, just possibly past it's best.

Given how it smelt, it was way past! I binned it.

It was not a pleasant pasta odour

What sort of treat is out of date pasta ??
  • If the pasta is out of date for just a couple of weeks, I might eat it. But I can not imagine things like this ---eat a 3-month out of date pasta. What a lucky dog OP, you're still alive.
Men talk of killing time, while time quietly kills them. :p
