Sony TV cannot pick up BBC4 HD

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas why my fairly new (less than 6 months old) Sony TV isn't picking up BBC 4 HD channel on the built in Freeview HD?

It's a Sony Bravia KDL-48W585B with the newest software version:
PKG2.303EUA

Checking on the Freeview website coverage checker (I'm in city centre Manchester/Granada region) it says I should be able to get 14 Freeview HD channels:

101 BBC1 HD = yes
102 BBC2 HD = yes
103 ITV1 HD = yes
104 Channel 4 HD = yes
105 BBC 3 HD = yes
106 BBC 4 HD = no
107 BBC News HD = no
108 Aljazeera HD = no
109 Channel 4 +1 HD = no
110 4Seven HD = no
111 QVC +1 HD = yes
112 QVC Beauty HD = yes
123 CBBC HD = yes
124 Cbeebies HD = [STRIKE]yes[/STRIKE] = no

As I say, latest software on the tv and have just done a fresh full Digital Auto tuning scan and still can't pick up those missing (supposedly available to me) HD channels.

Thanks, but I have already tried that, and anyway BBC3 HD is in the channel guide and that doesn't start broadcasting until 7pm as well.

I live in an apartment block with a communal aerial/satellite wall outlet system so I'll get on to the building supplier about it.

I only really noticed this in the last couple of days as I used to watch the free to air HD channels through an old Sky box which has now gone kaput. Oh well, not the end of the world

Cbeebies HD is broadcast on the same multiplex as BBC 4 HD, BBC News HD, Al Jazeera English HD, Al Jazeera Arabic etc. so the reception is the same.

So if you can not recieve BBC News HD but can receive Cbeebies HD your TV is inconsistently tuned, perhaps a factory reset will help.

I had the same problem with my new Samsung TV. I resolved it by retuning it several times until it came on... Also check your settings to make sure it is set to only tune to digital broadcasts... A full factory reset with trying different tuning options should sort it.
Sorry if this is not much help as it was quite a while ago.

Freeview (inc HD) is broadcast in groups, called Multiplexes (Mux).
The channels you aren't getting are all part of one of the newest Muxes, containing mostly BBC HD channels. This is broadcast more weakly than others, so you need a better aerial or cabling to get them.
I've got the same problem because (I think) of the length of cable going to the TVs. 2 Sonys and 1 Sharp.

50% of such problems are caused by the cheap, nasty fly-lead connecting it to the wall socket. Make one with WF100 cable.

However, if you can receive programmes which share the same multiplex, then that has to be a fault of the TV itself. Test with a different TV.

Yeah my mistake there - it's not picking up CBeebies HD but is getting CBBC HD.
