I am relatively new to investing. I have looked at the Hargreaves and Landsdown funds and the advice for new investors is to invest in passive funds rather than active funds. How do you identify passive funds? Do they all have the word: "index" in the name? For example this one: http://www.hl.co.uk/funds/fund-discounts,-prices--and--factsheets/search-results/h/hl-multi-manager-asia-and-emerging-markets-accumulation

Low charges. If I find I'm actually looking at an active fund with really low charges, then that's worth a look too. If I miss out on a tracker with high charges, then I don't think I'm losing out.0

most have "index" or "tracker" in the name, but not all.
HL have a list of passive funds available through them: http://www.hl.co.uk/funds/index-tracker-funds/view-index-tracker-funds
monevator has a list of some of the cheapest trackers here: http://monevator.com/low-cost-index-trackers/ (... note that this list includes ETFs, as well as funds, unlike the HL list)0
