Viewing/Playing computer files on a Humax PVR

I've just purchased a Humax 2000T. Has anyone managed to transfer then play JPG, mpg and AVI files on it? This seems to be the standard format for the various cameras I've used over the years. According to the manual video decoding is HD MPEG-2, SD MPEG-2, and MPEG-4.

So far I've been successful in transferring and playing MP3 and MP4 only. The problem with JPG and mpg is that they don't even list on the when I attach the flash drive via USB port so I can't transfer them or see if they have been transferred, less play them. The directories transfer though which appear blank. This happens for all sizes of file. With AVI it lists the file but can't play it.

Looking over Internet forums there are many people who have had similar problems with other Humax models in the past, but the bizarre attempts at fixes only seem to occasionally work for them.

Note this is only a problem playing these files. Everything else recorded from the TV works OK.
