Thanks for the replys. I have another quick question. I'm looking to build my credit rating, what would be a better credit card to get an aqua start card or a marbles start credit card

Personally, I would avoid the Aqua Start Card or any of the so-called start cards like the proverbial plague. APR rates even for sub-prime are coming down and paying their rates is not necessary. Basically, with such high interest you'll get hammered if you have to leave a balance in a month when your funds are short. But it depends on your credit history and sometimes beggars can't be choosers.

Just for building a credit history, a loan which is paid off and settled works wonders. The problem with personal loans is that the minimum is sometimes ridiculously high. TSB for example quote upwards of £7500. For a small loan of say upwards of £250 try your local credit union. But there are variations from CU to CU. The CU I support with savings has a minimum "starter loan" of £500. Make sure the CU reports to a CRA or otherwise it won't build your credit history.

Why are you suggesting the OP take out a £250 loan? They were asking about getting a credit card, not borrowing money (and paying interest).

    Hey very nicely misquoted!

In the post you're quoting I posted a quote referring to building a credit history which was what I was replying to. As I posted, a settled loan account works wonders for a credit history and is in fact a lot better than any credit card account which is never settled!

Try actually reading the post you're quoting and replying to. That will work wonders for your posts.

I quoted what you wrote in its entirety. To say I misquoted you is untrue.

You can build a good credit history without taking out a loan or paying interest.

You failed to quote the post that I quoted and replied to so it was therefore misquoted.

BTW I won't be replying to any more of your posts. Bye-bye.

He always advocates paying money for something that can be absolutely free.

On the which card is best question, probably the biggest credit card error in the whole history of biggest credit card errors is unreasonably assuming you won't get a prime or near-prime card or even a sub-prime card with a better APR. Try a soft search either here on MSE or on moneysupermarket or go straight to the horse's mouth at MBNA. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
